New Employee Welcome Guide

Welcome to Âé¶¹¶ÌÊÓÆµ´«Ã½ (KSU)!

We’re excited to have you join the Thorobred family. This guide outlines key milestones and support available during your first 90 days.

First 30 Days – Getting Oriented

Objective: Learn the University’s Mission, Vision and Core Values, meet your team, and complete initial administrative steps.

✅Orientation & Setup

Attend New Employee Orientation: Overview of KSU’s culture, values, and structure.

Human Resources Overview

IT Setup, Email, and Banner Access: To gain access, an IT Access Request Form (provided by HR) is required.

Employee ID Badge: To receive an employee ID badge, an Employee Identification Card Request Form (provided by HR) is required.

Obtain a Parking Decal

Review Your Benefits Package

  • Set up your retirement plan: Make election prior to your 1st compensation
  • Medical, dental, vision, life, and optional benefits: Make elections within your 30-day enrollment window.
  • Contact: Benefits@kysu.eudu  

✅ Department Integration

  • Meet with your supervisor to review:
  • Your role and expectations.
  • Department goals and organizational chart.

✅ Training and Development

  • Complete all required training through KSU’s Learning Management System (LMS). The following courses are mandatory, with additional trainings added as needed for compliance purposes:
    • Active Shooter: Run, Hide, Flight
    • Browser Security Basics
    • Cybersecurity Awareness for employees of Educations Institutions
    • Email and Messaging Safety
    • FERPA: Confidentiality of Records
    • Password Security Basics
    • Protection Against Malware
    • Title IX and Sexual Harassment Prevention

Days 31–60 – “Onward, Upwardâ€

Objective: Begin contributing to your team, deepen relationships, and explore professional development.

✅ Role Development

  • Review your 30-day performance with your supervisor.
  • Discuss goals and expectations for the next 30 days.

✅ HR Check-In

  • Watch for a 30-day check-in email from Human Resources. This may include reminders, feedback opportunities, or quick surveys to ensure you're settling in well.
  • Revisit your benefits elections to ensure they still meet your needs and that all selections have been submitted and processed.
  • Update your personal information, such as emergency contacts or address changes, in the employee self-service portal if needed.
  • Ask questions or request support—this is a great time to raise any early concerns or clarify workplace processes with HR.

Days 61–90 – Thriving at KSU

Objective: Fully integrate into your role, make an impact, and align with long-term goals.

✅ Performance and Development

  • Complete your 90-day performance evaluation with your supervisor. This is an opportunity for two-way feedback and to reflect on your integration into the team. Once completed, submit the evaluation to HR.
  • Discuss your strengths and areas for growth, based on your experience so far. This helps tailor future development and align expectations.
  • Set short- and long-term goals for the next quarter and the year ahead. These goals should align with departmental objectives and your role’s responsibilities.
  • Document your accomplishments from the first 90 days—this helps in performance tracking and annual evaluations.
