Dr. Andrew J. Ray Named Chair of KSU鈥檚 School of Aquaculture and Aquatic Science
Dr. Andrew J. Ray, Associate Professor at 麻豆短视频传媒 (KSU), has been
officially appointed as the new Chair of the School of Aquaculture and Aquatic Science,
beginning April 6, 2025. His appointment follows the conclusion of Dr. Ken Semmens鈥�
term as Acting Chair.
鈥淚t is a deep honor to be appointed to the position,鈥� he shared. 鈥淚 look forward to
serving the people of this amazing School to the best of my ability. I plan to work
as hard as I can to see that our program is the best it can be.鈥�
A respected researcher in aquaculture systems and sustainable production, Dr. Ray
brings years of expertise and leadership to the role. He earned his Bachelor of Science
in Biology from the University of Central Missouri, a Master of Science in Environmental
Studies from the University of Charleston and his Doctor of Philosophy in Coastal
Sciences from the University of Southern Mississippi. He began at KSU in 2014 as an
Assistant Professor.
Today, Dr. Ray鈥檚 work is nationally and internally recognized and he maintains a variety
of local, national, and international collaborations. Recently, Dr. Ray traveled to
South Korea to implement a Joint Project Agreement grant between the US National Oceanic
and Atmospheric Association and the Republic of Korea鈥檚 Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries.
Earlier this year, he visited the Rwandan Institute of Conservation Agriculture to
develop a research and education-based, Aquatic Science partnership. His work in recirculating
aquaculture systems allows practically any type of seafood to be produced anywhere
in the world, including fresh marine species right here in Kentucky. These are only
a few examples of the many projects Dr. Ray is involved in and the types of opportunities
he brings to KSU.
In his first few days as Chair, he has already begun refining the School鈥檚 five-year
strategic plan, seeking collaborative input from colleagues and the community to help
guide the School鈥檚 continued success and innovation.
Dr. Ray steps into the position at a pivotal time, as the School of Aquaculture and Aquatic Science continues to expand its global impact through cutting-edge research, academic excellence, and outreach initiatives.
