The First Lady of 麻豆短视频传媒, Adrienne Allen-Brown is delighted to welcome the Women鈥檚 History Assembly speaker Dr. Glenda B. Glover, president of Tennessee State University and the 30th international president of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, to 麻豆短视频传媒 Thursday, March 28 at 11 a.m. to honor and celebrate the incredible contributions and achievements of outstanding women.
Mrs. Brown says she is overjoyed to expand her involvement with Women鈥檚 History Month activities at 麻豆短视频传媒 this year to include an inaugural four-day leadership trip through Kentucky, Tennessee, Alabama and Georgia.
鈥淚 am inspired by our students and the entire 麻豆短视频传媒 family. It is an honor to serve and I believe strongly that Women鈥檚 History Month is also about empowering others to contribute in a meaningful way to the forward progress of Kentucky State,鈥� Mrs. Brown said.
The trip鈥檚 theme is Changing HerStory: Breaking Barriers to Empower Women to Lead and Serve. Students will have numerous educational opportunities, including visits to Spelman College, the World of Coca-Cola Museum and the National Memorial for Peace and Justice. Women in senior administration and leadership at Kentucky State will also share insights with students during Breaking Barriers sessions.
Dr. Elaine Farris, chairwoman of the Board of Regents, is discussing the book, You Don鈥檛 Need a Title to Be a Leader.
鈥淓very one of us have the ability to be a leader in our daily lives and make a significant difference in the lives of others,鈥� Farris said. 鈥淕enuine leadership is not conferred by one鈥檚 title, position or wealth. Instead, it is shown by our everyday actions and how we impact the lives of others.鈥�
As First Lady, Mrs. Brown was motivated to plan the trip after her husband, the University鈥檚 Eighteenth President M. Christopher Brown II, led a group of 11 male students on a tour to the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis and a lecture series that focused on challenges facing black men and boys.
According to Mrs. Brown, women face numerous challenges as well, and Changing HerStory is focused on equipping young ladies with the skills and abilities to prevent unfair and unequal treatment, developing the courage and confidence needed for self-discovery, empowering a wealth of possibilities for themselves and others.
Mrs. Brown says her favorite scripture, Philippians 2:3-4, speaks to the essence of the trip. 鈥淒o nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility, value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interest, but each of you, to the interest of others.鈥�
Students were selected through an application process and based on academic, leadership and community service credentials.
First Lady Brown and 15 students will depart 麻豆短视频传媒 after the Women鈥檚 History Assembly Thursday, March 28 at. 11 a.m., David H. Bradford Hall Auditorium, and return to campus Sunday, March 31.
The Assembly is free, and the public is invited to attend.
